Membership

The open-source motion stack your robots rely on.

Kept reliable for the long term, steered by the companies that use it.

The MAESTRO software is open source and free to use. Members fund the team that keeps it reliable, and decide together what it builds next.

The software

The stack behind robots that move

Six libraries cover the core of robot motion, from dynamics to simulation. All are released under the BSD licence: anyone can use, modify and ship them, including in commercial products.

Pinocchio

Rigid-body dynamics and their derivatives

COAL

Fast collision detection

Aligator

Optimal control with contacts

ProxSuite

Numerical optimisation

Simple

Differentiable simulation

EigenPy

NumPy and Eigen bindings for Python

Pinocchio and the other libraries of the stack run in research labs and in companies building humanoids, legged robots and manipulators.

Why join

Why companies join

Large group or small team, membership gives you a say in the software you build on.

You ship products built on the stack

Keep the libraries inside your products dependable: regular tested releases, packages for new platforms, and a direct channel to report the issues that block you.

You run robotics R&D

Get early access to upcoming releases, and a direct line to the research teams behind the stack and to the engineers and students they train.

You are a startup or a small team

Sit at the same table as major industrial groups and the research teams, make your needs heard, and show your customers and investors that you build on a maintained stack.

How it works

Stronger together

Keeping a motion stack reliable takes a dedicated team: tests, releases, packaging, support for new platforms. Few companies can fund that team on their own. MAESTRO shares it across its members.

Inria and CNRS

Bring the software, the research behind it and dedicated engineers

Members

Expand the engineering effort through an annual fee

Shared

Tests, long-term-support releases, packaging, support for new platforms

For everyone

Open-source stack

Released openly, for research and industry

Even the Gold level costs less than one full-time engineer.

  • Fees are used exclusively for the consortium's activities
  • Inria coordinates the consortium and runs its administration

Membership levels

Choose your seat at the table

Start at any level and move up later. Every member at a given level gets the same terms, whatever its size.

Bronze

Take a seat

€5,000per year, excl. VAT

For startups and small teams building on the stack.

  • A seat on the Scientific and Technical Committee
  • Follow the roadmap as it is built and make your needs heard

Silver

Shape the roadmap

€15,000per year, excl. VAT

For companies that want a real say in technical choices.

  • A vote on the Scientific and Technical Committee, with the same weight as Gold
  • A seat on the Executive Committee
  • 2 priority roadmap requests

Gold

Lead the strategy

€45,000per year, excl. VAT

For companies whose products depend on the stack.

  • A vote on both committees
  • 4 priority roadmap requests
  • Access to the private development branches

Members

They are joining

Five companies from robotics, automotive, aerospace, defence and digital services have committed to join MAESTRO, alongside its founders.

Governance

Neutral by design

MAESTRO is steered by two committees in which industry and research share the decisions.

Executive Committee

Sets the strategy and the budget, and approves the roadmap each year.

Scientific and Technical Committee

Builds the technical roadmap and ranks development requests.

Technical Manager

Coordinates the engineering work day to day and reports to both committees.

Votes on the Scientific and Technical Committee

Founders · 50%
Silver and Gold members · 50%

The members' half is shared equally among Silver and Gold members. No single company can take control of the project.

Members can

  • Vote on the technical roadmap (Silver and Gold) and on the strategy (Gold)
  • Propose new developments and code contributions

Members cannot

  • Take control of the project: half of the technical votes always go to the founders
  • Close the software: the stack stays open source, for everyone

How to join

Three steps to join

  1. 01

    Talk to us

A short call to understand your needs and find the right level.

  2. 02

    Receive the agreement

We send you the membership agreement and the accession form, signed with Inria as coordinator of the consortium.

  3. 03

    Sign and start

Your membership starts once the form is signed and the fee paid.

Take a seat at the table.

Membership runs by calendar year and renews automatically on 1 January. If you join in the second half of the year, your first fee is reduced. Multi-year commitments are also possible.
